What is International Baccalaureate programme?

International Baccalaureate, abbreviated IB, is the International qualification that has well-known reputation all over the world. The IB programme currently offered by 1800 schools around the world and managed via the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) in Switzerland. 

The IB Programme is for student age from 3-19 and has 3 levels:

• The Diploma Programme (DP) for students aged 16 to 19
• The Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16 
• The Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students from 3 to 12. 

 With the DB programme, courses are offered at Higher Level, Standard Level or both. To qualify for the Diploma a student must pass at least 3 subjects at Higher Level and a total of 6 from English to Arts and Electives.

With the MYP Programme, students are going to learn all major disciplines include humanities, sciences, languages, sciences, mathematics, arts, technology and physical education. In addition the school can include other subjects that not part of the MYP structure. Teachers are using a variety tools to assess student progress including oral presentations, essays, tests, projects.

The curriculum focuses on the development of the whole child, consisting of social, physical, emotional and cultural needs. Also it concurrently assigns a strong foundation in maths, social studies, drama, language, music, visual arts, science and physical education. The learning structure is suitable with the IBO concept, which means pupils are encouraged to be aware of the opinion of people from other parts of the world. 

To consider a right IB school for your child, you have to list down some factors that might affect your kids such as location, type of IB school, annual academic performance, subjects available for DP programme, quality of teaching staffs, also consider about the IB’s day school and IB’s boarding school et cetera.
